During your pregnancy, your body undergoes massive changes. Combined with the obvious expansion in the abdominal region, is hormonal releases aimed at softening ligaments in the lower back and pelvic regions.  These changes can cause a variety of problems including:

  • lower back pain and sciatica
  • fluid retention/swelling
  • shortness of breath
  • pelvic pain

During labour, the process of the baby descending through the pelvic girdle is influenced by a number of factors including pelvic and lower back alignment and muscular imbalance or weakness. 

Osteopathy has been proven to be a safe, effective and gentle therapy for pregnant mothers.  Through the use of varied techniques aimed at maintaining optimum comfort and safety for both mother and child, your Osteopath at Alliance will work with your body to prevent or manage a variety of both pre and post natal conditions.   Through the use of soft tissue, stretching, myosfascial and manipulative techniques, the Osteopaths at Alliance will work to maintain and restore balance to the low back and pelvic regions.  This will aid in the labour process, and in the post natal management of pelvic floor weakness, bladder dysfunction, and lower back/pelvic strain.

Our resident Exercise Physiologist will work with pre/post natal mums to aid in both the management and prevention of injuries through the implementation of:

  • Strength and stability development through exercise programs for either one-on-one or small group.
  • Development of individual exercise programs.
  • Rehabilitation of pre-diagnosed injuries such as pelvic floor weakness.
